The 275/70r18 Ford  BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tire has legendary reputation in the off-road community. BFG practically invented the first radial off-road or all-terrain tire over 40 years ago. The KO2 is the next generation or brother of the original KO tire, which alone, was a rock star in the category.

So to make this tire tougher overall, BFG just basically fortified some of the big weak spots, more specifically the sidewalls and shoulder area, which is where over 80% all terrains tire failures occur.

To do so, they beefed up that shoulder area using that is called their CoreGuard technology, making this tire 15% to 20% stronger than the original KO tire, helping to prevent punctures and thinks like that.

In the BF Goodrich KO2 terrain they are always some kind of expected noise when dealing with a tire aggressive tread design like this, however most customer experienced say that these tires are very quiet while on the road.

A last important detail is that the KO2 is three peak snowflakes rated, meaning that this have met stringent requirements set forth by the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association and the Rubber Association of Canada to identify passenger and light truck tires that provide a higher level of snow traction and meets required performance criteria to be considered a severe snow rated tire, so that way, you can feel confident in the snow or on the ice.

2.- Firestone Transforce AT – 275/70R18 All Terrain Tires

Firestone Transforce AT on RAM 1500 - 275/75R18

For drivers of multipurpose full-sized pickups, vans, sport utility vehicles, and commercial vehicles looking for heavy-duty light truck tires that can combine traction on the highway, as well as at work jobsites and recreation areas, Firestone developed the Transforce AT.

The 275/70R18 Transforce AT is made to offer on- and off-road grip in snow, rain, and wintry weather.

Transforce AT radials have a Long Link Carbon tread compound molded into a symmetric tread design that combines dry-road handling with bad weather traction using notched shoulders, independent intermediate tread blocks, and numerous sipes.

While lateral grooves and numerous sipes provide the biting edges required to improve snow grip, wide circumferential grooves offer hydroplaning resistance.

A polyester cord body enhances ride quality, and twin steel belts reinforced by spiral-wrapped nylon help the tire keep its shape and perform better at highway speeds.

3.- Falken Wildpeak AT3W – 275/70R18 All Terrain Tires

TIRE: FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T3WSIZE: 275/70R18
PRICE: $323 - $357 Per TireMAX. SPEED: 112 mph
MAX. LOAD: 3,640 lbsMAX. INFLATION PRESSURE: 80 psi
TIRE WEIGHT: 59 lbsWARRANTY: 55,000 Miles

First of all, you may notice in this model that the 275/70r18 Chevy Falken Wildpeak A/T3 have this sort of angled side biter that looks somewhat like a saw blade. It’s sort of directional how it’s angled up, but you do have that a little bit of extra traction there with those side biters.

They do have those cooling fins along this inner bead of the tire there, which always makes people kind of question why are they there? If you are running low air pressure, for example, then Falken put these on there to help dissipate the heat, but you don’t see that on any other tire out there.

The other thing is that those shoulder blocks are designed a little bit different. They still have the larger shoulder blocks on the outer edge of the tire and then the scattered or staggered inner tread blocks along the center of the tire to help cut down on that road noise.

4.- General Grabber ATX – 275/70R18 All Terrain Tires

275/70R18 Ford F150 with Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac

TIRE: GENERAL GRABBER A/TXSIZE: 275/70R18
PRICE: $290 - $320 Per TireMAX. SPEED: 106 mph
MAX. LOAD: 3,640 lbsMAX. INFLATION PRESSURE: 80 psi
TIRE WEIGHT: 61 lbsWARRANTY: 50,000 Miles

The ATX, which the X, means that it’s designated from General Tire as a hybrid or crossover tire and was  designed to  be a blend of General X three mud terrain with a more robust sidewall and aggressive shoulder lugs and General previous AT2 all-terrain to give it a respectable on road handling and a quiet ride, plus lots of great traction characteristics without sacrificing Off-Road performance.

The tread voids and tread depth will do a great job at evaluating mud as long as you have them spinning at a faster rate of speed. Same with the snow, especially the wet, heavy stuff.

Not surprisingly, the 275/70r18 Ford General Grabber A/TX is ample space between the lugs, as these are rated as a three peak mountain snowflake rated tire, which means they have passed a set standard as being a high performing tire in severe winter weather driving conditions.

5.- Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac – 275/70R18 All Terrain Tires

TIRE: GOODYEAR WRANGLER DURATRACSIZE: 275/70R18
PRICE: $321 - $355 Per TireMAX. SPEED: 99 mph

TIRE WEIGHT: 58 lbsWARRANTY: None

The 275/70R18 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac are used in work trucks, and plow trucks are especially popular in the former. Everybody wears these things because they are quite impressive both off-road and on-road.

You can see they have those big chunky blocks of the tread on the side and then in the middle, it’s a little closer and it’s a smaller block of the tread. But there is still a lot of space there for the evacuation of not only water, but also gravel, mud rocks, etc. And by having them closer together in the center, you get a little more mileage out of these. So, depending on the sizes, they have a fifty-thousand-mile warranty. So that’s something you’ll want to investigate.

When it comes to driving in the snow, we can tell you first hand that these things are pretty impressive, just in the tread pattern alone, you will see that there are a ton of zigzag snipers. And basically, what it does is it collects snow and locks it in those little sections so you don’t turn it into a stain, but you get better acceleration and better braking by having all this extra writing there.

So, if you are looking for a tire with an off-road appearance and good performance both on the road and in difficult terrain such as snow, we recommend the Wrangler Duratrac.

The central sniping in the tread blocks, which is going to help to increase your wet weather handling and traction while decreasing the risk of hydroplaning on the outer tread blocks.
