The 285/70R17 BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tire has legendary reputation in the off-road community. BFG practically invented the first radial off-road or all-terrain tire over 40 years ago. The KO2 is the next generation or brother of the original KO tire, which alone, was a rock star in the category.
So to make this tire tougher overall, BFG just basically fortified some of the big weak spots, more specifically the sidewalls and shoulder area, which is where over 80% all terrains tire failures occur.
To do so, they beefed up that shoulder area using that is called their CoreGuard technology, making this tire 15% to 20% stronger than the original KO tire, helping to prevent punctures and thinks like that.
In the BF Goodrich KO2 terrain they are always some kind of expected noise when dealing with a tire aggressive tread design like this, however most customer experienced say that these tires are very quiet while on the road.
A last important detail is that the KO2 is three peak snowflakes rated, meaning that this have met stringent requirements set forth by the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association and the Rubber Association of Canada to identify passenger and light truck tires that provide a higher level of snow traction and meets required performance criteria to be considered a severe snow rated tire, so that way, you can feel confident in the snow or on the ice.
2.- Cooper Discoverer STT All Terrain – 285/70R17
The 285/70R17 Cooper Tires Discoverer STT is designed to bring confident traction anywhere for off- enthusiasts and their vehicles by combining aggressive traction generation features with a smart block design. The tires are manufactured for extremely loose surface grip while providing acceptable levels of noise on the road and driving comfort on the highway.
The Discoverer STT performs perhaps as one would expect an off-road focused tire to do. The noise from the tread is not overly dramatic at speeds close to the city, however it rises when speeds increase on the highway.
Medium-high volume grinding changes the tone when cornering, or when the tire is loaded on undulations and the direction of the pavement is a bit dull compared to other tires, with a relatively large and loose dead center at all times. speeds.
The ride is characteristically stiff that would inspire confidence in the back woods. In wet testing, the Discoverer STT performed well with solid objective metrics, tying the leader in lateral corners and just four feet more at an average of 50 to zero miles per hour of stopping distance.
Subjectively, the Cooper was also in close contention with the leader, with the relative increase in traction allowing the driver to lean on the tire with much more force and apply considerably more acceleration without chronic wheel slip.
3.- Falken Wildpeak AT3 All Terrain – 285/70R17

---|---|

MAX. LOAD: 2,755 lbs | MAX. INFLATION PRESSURE: 50 psi |
TIRE WEIGHT: 63 lbs | WARRANTY: 55,000 Miles |
First of all, you may notice in this model that the 285/70r17 Chevy Falken Wildpeak A/T3 have this sort of angled side biter that looks somewhat like a saw blade. It’s sort of directional how it’s angled up, but you do have that a little bit of extra traction there with those side biters.
They do have those cooling fins along this inner bead of the tire there, which always makes people kind of question why are they there? If you are running low air pressure, for example, then Falken put these on there to help dissipate the heat, but you don’t see that on any other tire out there.
The other thing is that those shoulder blocks are designed a little bit different. They still have the larger shoulder blocks on the outer edge of the tire and then the scattered or staggered inner tread blocks along the center of the tire to help cut down on that road noise.
4.- Michelin LTX AT2 All Terrain – 285/70R17
TIRE: MICHELIN LTX A/T2 | SIZE: 285/70R17 121R |

The 285/70R17 Michelin LTX A/T 2 tires use a unique rubber formula that resists chipping and tearing and lasts up to 35% longer on gravel than competitors. Michelin’s MaxTouch design, which uses a computer-optimized contact patch, enables for higher traction and more consistent wear.
To provide a more comfortable ride, Michelin Comfort Control technology absorbs road noise and vibrations. With high-strength steel belts and a thick nylon carcass to resist warping and punctures, the tire is built to last. Deep circumferential grooves keep water out, and broad and thick lugs with lots of void provide grip in deep mud and slippery gravel.
The LTX A/T2 is a nearly all-season tire that perfectly blends jobsite functionality and road competence into one comfortable package.
5.- Nitto Ridge Grappler All Terrain – 285/70R17
TIRE: NITTO RIDGE GRAPPLER | SIZE: 285/70R17 |
---|---|
PRICE: $295 - $326 Per Tire | MAX. SPEED: 99 mph |
MAX. LOAD: 2,755 lbs | MAX. INFLATION PRESSURE: 50 psi |
TIRE WEIGHT: 55 lbs | WARRANTY: None |
We will tell you why the Grappler model is so popular. For starters, it combines the best of both worlds, between its mud tires and its off-road tires.
Now, the Ridge Grappler itself is actually built on an all-terrain platform, whereas you have other ultra or hybrid tires, it is built on the mud tire platform, so the 285/70R17 Chevy Nitto Ridge Grappler is kind of giving you the best of both worlds between that mud and the all-terrain.
You could get good on road performance, they’re not too loud. But then if you want to take this thing off road on the weekends, you can definitely do that.
No complaints with them. Good in the dry, good in the wet and actually pretty decent in the snow, too, because it’s again just the hybrid tire that’s good for a little bit of everything.
Another added bonus of these tires is that they’re actually manufactured right here in the United States and actually you could get a chance to tour the factory in white Georgia. So, it’s one of those tires that it’s American made.
6.- Yokohama Geolandar G015 All Terrain – 285/70R17
The 225/65R17 Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 was developed for drivers looking for a strong and durable tire that is capable of withstanding off-road work, but also provides comfort on the road, long tread life and a light traction in the snow able to win the symbol of the three mountain snowflakes.
The Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015’s off-road pattern was designed with the focus on varying the pitch of the tread block to improve driver comfort by reducing noise. You will be impressed with how quiet the tire is on the road when a small amount of soil is present. Overall, the sound quality is closer to what you would expect from a road tread tire, not something from the off-road and off-road all-terrain category.
Similarly, the steering feel would be linear and predictable, leading the truck to a more satisfying experience in wet testing. All-wheel drive is a step above the rest of the tires, and acceleration, braking and cornering ability is balanced and predictable. In the end, this tire obtained the highest score and led the test in all objective measurements.
